Hosting a Memorable Graduation or Convocation at The KBC Houston

Creating a memorable celebration, whether it’s the accomplishments and dedication of graduates or celebrating the achievements of nonprofit group members, starts with planning!

At The KBC Houston, we’re proud to host these ceremonies that honor hard work and education. We also know the responsibility of organizing these events. This blog will share our top tips for planning a convocation for schools and organizations.

Find Enough Room to Call Everyone Together

To understand the exact amount of space you will need, start with your guest list.

  1. How many people will be honored on stage?

  2. How many teachers or nonprofit group leaders will be there to cheer for their students?

  3. Will there be a choir or band involved in the ceremony?

  4. How many guests can each graduate or honoree bring?

  5. Will other classes or groups within your school or organization attend as well?

Once you know the answers to these questions, you can determine the size of your group and the space you need for the ceremony and celebration. If your ceremony includes a grand entrance with a procession, you will need a separate room for gathering and organizing honorees. In this room, you can ensure everyone is wearing the proper attire, has their tassels in the correct position and is lined up alphabetically.

Theater seating is ideal for graduation, making it easy for every attendee to see their special graduate as they cross the stage and receive a diploma. Ballrooms are the best fit for celebrations where you want guests to mingle.

With over 1,100 free parking spaces and 180,000 square feet of indoor flexible space, The KBC Houston strives to create amazing experiences. With a variety of rooms and seating arrangements, we can accommodate events of any size. Whether you need banquet seating, theater seating, or a room to gather your honorees, we can find the right combination for your ceremony.

Make Memorable Moments Easy to Share

Your convocation or graduation ceremony will bring together family and friends to mark a momentous occasion. Beyond large group management, your event will need a personal, memorable touch to succeed. Create a unique theme for your ceremony that highlights a powerful message and the experiences of your honorees to guide the decoration of your event space.

Start your event with a video or slideshow featuring photos and personal messages. The video or slideshow can be shared on a big screen or smaller screens throughout your space. Build new memories with live photography from a professional photographer or a photo booth area.

Remember to include a hashtag for your event that includes the school or organization name to make it easy for attendees to connect with you online. Your hashtag and social handles should also be shared on programs and signage around the event space for added visibility.

When choosing a graduation or convocation venue in Houston, look for amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, screen projectors, and on-site AV support. At The KBC Houston, our holistic approach to event planning incorporates professional planning and thoughtful execution, considering functionality and aesthetics.
